Save a Greyhound

Dairyland Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha, Wisconsin will be closing on December 31, 2009.

900 Greyhounds will need to be adopted otherwise they will be euthanized.

Now is a great time to consider adopting a Greyhound. They are very loving and laid back. They don’t need the space people think they need. These greyhounds are great for an active family because they have been crated almost all their lives and they sleep about 18 hours a day. They are just looking for someone to love them and supply them with a warm bed.

They test the dogs to see if they are cat friendly and or small dog friendly. They also know if a dog should be a single dog or if they would be great in a 2, 3, or 4 dog house.

Please help me get the word out; we only have 6 weeks to save these lives.

How do I let the voices go? The self-doubt, the feeling of constant fluctuation? So for those of you like me, that can't find the "id" and need a clue as to one of the paths, I give you the following:

On past and current expectations

I was just blipping through comments from one post of a friend and read a comment that made me curious and blipped over to his blog and found this cereta.livejournal.com/652008.html which made me step back and clue myself in. I've always thought that I was "empowered" and knew my way and that I wasn't any man's "little girl". Hmmmm, right... need to look to that again. My reason? I allowed myself to be used because I was afraid of not being loved by my husband. He was (now obviously that we are no longer together) unhappy with our marriage and had begun a verbally abusive/derogatory treatment that occasionally came down to him... man handling me.. pushing forcefully backwards... Yeah... today I think of that.. finally and say, Hey, I should've known then to get out. I hear in my head how many times I've said to a friend that "So and so should have already left." I was clueless, obviously, to someone... just not me.

The thing is, when we get around to educating our sons about how they need to be responsible, we also need to educate our daughters on what their expectations of people (not only men, as I have many friends that are bi and lesbian) need to be.

And from this day on, I will no longer assume that because I am a smart, funny, intelligent woman... that I know all there is to know about protecting myself and those around me. I vow, to become a better human.

Thanks go out to [info]neo_prodigy which led me to [info]bulliciosa which led me to a post made by [info]yeluson which ultimately led to [info]cereta's post. Networking, that's what leads to education and open-mindedness and eventually to peace. Right?

Idiocy and Lies

I have come to the opinion that I expect too much and settle for too little.  Why when we're dating does the need for companionship overide our innate intelligence?  If I just listen to the little niggling voice in the back of my head... I know what a setup lie sounds like... and at that instance I should know that I'm in the prescence of a true and outright liar.

I've finally kicked him to the curb... or realised that I've been at the cabbie stand the whole time.  Whichever it is, when do we learn to trust ourselves? And when we do, do we inherently lose the ability to trust others?

I just have to say

From shangyfeminism (and the ever-awesome</a></font></b></a>[info]popelizbet), this is a link to an incredible article I think everyone should know about and read:

Thanks for taking the time, if you do read it. For some people, this will be a timely read.  *Warning:  triggery* and for some, NSFW (text only).

I know in one of our households, and one of our family branches, we do gift exchanges/secret santas (BTW if anyone else does these, I so recommend GiftieGiftie. com awesome website). In order to make it easier on folks, I wanted to list items that people could make for me....I don't want people to spend money on me if they can't afford it, and I love handmade items.....

This got me thinking of what cool things one could make for someone else....and I figured I would turn it into a game.

There are 2- top 10 lists. (Please answer off list)

List 1
If you had to come up with a 10 ten list of items that can be handmade that you would like for SCA use, what would they be? 1 of the gifts have to be made in a kitchen (beer, wine, food, mead, ext), 2 of the gifts have to be made out of fabric (garb, hats, totes, ext), 1 of the gifts have to be made out of leather (drinking vessels, armour, gauntlets, bags), 1 of the gifts have to be made out of fiber (trim, weaving, knit, crochet), 1 of the gifts have to be made out of wood ( camp furniture, plates. chairs, ext) 1 of the gifts have to be made out of pewter or metal (armour, pins, jewelry), 1 of the gifts have to be an entirely period item, 1 of the gifts have to be an item, that someone NOT in the SCA (and not really craft oriented) could make for you, 1 of the items can be anything else you want, not previously listed

If you have links for a particular pattern, chair design, ext that you would want....include that :-)

List 2
Can you come up with a top ten list of things you can make for other people using the guidelines above? If you can't do one of the categories supplement it with another one you can do ( I can't wood work, but I can knit), try to fill in the blanks in at least 5 of the 7 categories(kitchen, fabric, leather, fiber, wood, pewter/metal, period item).

If you want to play, please answer off list to Holiday@broomstich. com ( I set this up, just for these top 10 lists), I will compile all the list and post responses on December 1st.

No matter what Holiday you celebrate (or don't celebrate) I wish everyone a joyous Holiday/Winter Season. (feel free to forward to any other lists you think would like to play)

I'm flying outa here! Whoot!  Nope

I'm flying on Nov 7th to go to see my beloved! Nope.. he's freaking out and not sure he wants a relationship right now. Yay! lol  Sorry, it's just been since July since I've gotten to see him and I'm crazy happy that my airport to his airport will only cost $192 round trip.  Meaning that this could possibly mean we'll see each other more often. Not till he gets his head straight about whether he's ready for a relationship... waaaaaa!

So watch out Alban! lol I might just take up that offer of yours to come and root through your library... I promise not to drool over the dolleries or finger all of the illuminations... and I'll even help mow the lawn... and make good green tea and butter cookies.

Watch out Columbia cos here'n I come!

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Color

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow.

Which Goddess Are You?

Your result for The Mythological Goddess Test...

Isis

Indeed, you are 75% erudite, 88% sensual, 54% martial, and 33% saturnine.

This Egyptian supreme Goddess is certainly the most influential deity on subsequent cultures. She was the ideal figure of womanhood, usually compared with the Greek Goddess Demeter or her Roman version, Ceres.

Isis was one element of a Holy Trinity, the remaining two figures being her brother and husband Osiris and their heroic son Horus. She was the Goddess of Magic for her brilliance, as well as the Goddess of Love because of her tenacious devotion.

She is often shown with wings, curving to caress coffins and sarcophagi of many a king. In certain papyri she is shown with her falcon wing headdress, covering her ears. One of her sacred symbols is the sistrum, a musical instrument that was believed to ward off evil spirits. Isis' sistrum was carved bearing the image of a cat and was representative of the Moon.

Isis was the High Priestess and an omnipotent magician as well as the only being ever to discover the secret name of Ra. She invariably carries the ankh, the symbol for eternal life. Her name is, by the rules of numerology, adding up to the number “2” and she just so happens to be depicted on the tarot card “Key 2 – The High Priestess”.

Valentines Day

  • Feb. 14th, 2008 at 1:24 PM
...and the bag of chips
How odd is it? This time last year, I was in pain. That which I can tell you felt as my heart were ripped out and forced to beat despite it's dislocation. I was in quandary as to my position in life, past present and future. Did I imagine the finding of my soul mate? Did I in my laid back fashion place my ideal of love upon a friend only to have it break him in it's treacherous vice of love and I in it's ultimate lie. Such is the search of self and redemption.

This Valentines Day, I have a date. With a sweet fellow that for all intents and purposes is my boyfriend. He is a "nice guy". Someone that here to for deemed a necessary evil unto the rest of the world, but always avoided by me. He's sweet, in a young and kind way. He has demonstrated immaturity in his words... but wisdom in his actions towards others. If you know me well, you know that I accept people as they present themselves. Respecting the wall of persona as the defense against pain that it is. I don't know if I have the will or strength to see let alone break beyond his pretense of "cool guy". Sigh... we will see.

Also on this V-day, I have a surprise gift upon my desk. A plastic glass with a frosted heart.. filled with Hershey's kisses and a metal rose. I found it on my return from the weekly meeting of the boys at Shufford's BBQ. No note, no symbol or clue as to it's origins or "meaning". The ladies here that have so carefully checked up on me since last years breaking of my heart, claim no knowledge of it's existence... and I love my boys in engineering and quality control... but I just don't picture them being so thoughtful or with such fore thought. sigh I am both touched and peeved. And in the recesses of my heart, I question... why did such simple a thought never cross my husbands mind.

To those that love rest not your heart
give thought to those in languor lie
for when you forget whence love it came
your heart it says good bye

Okay... so this one looked like a good one to get in on...

Mom! And not because she stood me by her to learn... but because I got tired of having the same-o same-o... or, like those that have eaten at her house... spaghetti with a surpise ingredient... beans... YUCK!

All in all, I learned to cook so that I could survive. sigh I have to say though, she does make some killer food sometimes, when she doesn't think she has to include the kitchen sink. lol It also taught me, to IMPROVISE! and to remember that the kitchen sink... should never be used. HA HA HA!

Peace .... like when the kids are at there dad's... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Hence, a year of constant introspection has just turned into... okay, you hopefully have learned something valuable... now use it to your best advantage. I do not believe in luck... I believe in ME.
